About
OUR MISSION/ RiverChurch is a movement of people living out our faith, offering others hope, sharing Christs love. /1Corinthians 13:13
OUR VISION/ To Be The Church. We do this by teaching others to be like Jesus and by actively caring for the hungry, the thirsty, the stranger, the naked, the sick, and the imprisoned. /Matthew 25:34-36.
OUR VALUES/
GO - We have been commissioned by Jesus to “GO.” That means into our neighborhoods, our workplace, our schools, our community, our state, our country, our world. As we go we take with us the love and truth of Jesus Christ
GROW - We have been commissioned by Jesus to make disciples, which simply means to help others grow in their relationship with God. Through biblical based teaching in a variety of settings we will learn and teach others how to grow in their faith. / Matthew 28:19
Lead Pastor:
Shannon and Kristia Greer are no strangers to Chattanooga. Kristia spent the largest portion of her childhood growing up in the “Scenic City.” Shannon fell in love with the city while attending Lee University just up the road. After he graduated from college Shannon moved to Israel where he served as a volunteer in benevolent ministry and a youth pastor at an international congregation in Jerusalem for four years.
Halfway during his time in Israel, Shannon married Kristia in Chattanooga, and they moved to Israel for two more years. Before returning to the U.S. in 2001 they had their first of three daughters, Makenzie, whom Shannon says was the best souveneir they could possibly bring home.
After returning to the U.S., Shannon and Kristia lived for a year in his hometown of Christiansburg, Virginia and moved back to Chattanooga in 2002, where he worked for Ministry to Israel. In his role as Church Relations Coordinator, Shannon had the opportunity to visit countless churches and pastors. During this time Shannon began to identify a calling into pastoral ministry.
In the fall of 2006 Shannon, Kristia, Makenzie and their two youngest daughters, Madilynn and Josie moved to Daphne, Alabama where he served as Ministries Pastor at Bay Community Church. Serving in this pastoral role at a young, progressive, and culturally relevant congregation provided learning opportunities that will positively shape Shannon’s leadership as a lead pastor of a new, life giving church in Chattanooga.
If you would like to contact Shannon and Kristia, they would love to hear from you. Drop them a line.
Beliefs:
We Believe . . . .
In God. He is the creator of all things. He has eternally existed in three persons; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God longs for an intimate relationship with humanity.
In Jesus. He is the Son of God. He is equal with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Jesus came to earth in human form. He was born to a Virgin, and lived as a perfect man. His death, burial and resurrection opened the only possible door for humanity to be free from sin and to live in relationship with God.
In the Holy Spirit. He is equal with the Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit is at work in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus. The fruit of the Spirit and His gifts fill our lives with the character and power of God. Only by His full involvement in our lives can we live a sinless life.
In the Bible. It is the absolute truth of God, in written form. Penned by men, but dictated by God, to provide instructions for life that cannot be watered down, or altered to fit human agendas.
In Salvation. Every person ever born after the creation of man, has been and will be born into sin. Sin separates us from God, and ultimately brings death. Acknowledging before God the sin in our life, accepting the forgiveness that comes through the death of Jesus, and turning from our sin makes it possible for us to live in constant relationship with God.
In the Church. A community of people forgiven of their sins now living for one purpose: to be like Jesus. As a community we are to reflect the character of Jesus by responding to the needs of those living around us, and ultimately pointing them toward a relationship with God.
In the Return of Christ. Jesus came to earth to live among men. He was crucified, died, buried, and came back to life according to God’s original plan to restore a spiritual relationship between Himself and humanity. Jesus ascended to heaven, with the promise that he would return making it possible for us to live in a face-to-face relationship with God forever.
